PocketWizard Photo Products Announces ControlTL Firmware Update

PocketWizard Photo Products Announces ControlTL Firmware Update

Here is an upgrade I've been waiting for. Looks like the 5D3 owners have to wait a little longer though.

Update

I have spent the last several days testing all of my ControlTL related  equipment and I could not be more pleased.

First I updated my Flextt5's and MiniTl to the latest firmware. (I tweaked the profiles of the Flextt5's as I had been meaning to do for sometime.)

After updating the firmware I wanted to test each unit to set my mind at ease that everything would work as I expected. Plus I wanted to test the changed firmware with the PocketWizard AC3 and AC9's and with my Sekonic L-358 with the new RT-32CTL module.

So with my Alien Bee 800, octa and AC9 I connected each FlexTT5 to it and ran it through the paces. Using the L-358 I metered the light and using the MiniTL/AC3 I adjusted the power of the light then re-metered!  Success!! Every piece of equipment performed as it should and to my complete satisfaction!

Now I am all ready for my next shoot (in less than a week) and I will be using the Sekonic L-358 for my setup and will be very confident in it!

I'd never cared much for the 85mm f/1.8 - until I put it on the 5D 2. Wow. I'm hooked now, glad I did not sell it like I had planned to do.

my big (long) three

Of the three the 200mm f/2.8 prime would be my favorite. Then the 70-200mm f/4 and lastly the 70-300mm DO.

The 70-300mm DO is the slowest lens I own but I only use it for daytime events where I need the extra reach. Works very well in bright sunlight.

Studio WhiBal

Studio WhiBal by Music Man5

I recently discovered that I had misplaced my old pocket sized Whibal card. So I ordered a new one (http://michaeltapesdesign.com/) and while I was doing so I noticed that they now offered a 3.5"X6" Studio version. So I ordered one, as I have always gotten great results from my pocket sized Whibal.

It came recently and this is my first use of it. (If you are new to white balance cards check out the videos here: http://www.whibalhost.com/_Tutorials/WhiBal/01/)

The new G7 version is much thinner and lighter than whatever version it was I had before. Much easier to tuck away in the camera bag and still the perfect tool for getting a custom white balance!

Latest project completed

Latest project completed by Music Man5

It had been a long time since I had refinished a chair like this. Too long I guess because my skills had gotten a little rusty.

This chair is one of three. They belonged to my grandmother and I refinished them originally for her. I had the forest green paint removed and then I sanded them. I finished them using amber shellac and polyurethane.

This particular chair still had too much green paint still in the grain of the chair. (And the amber shellac didn't help.) So I stripped the chair and attempted to remove the remaining paint.

I was about 60% successful but some of it is just too deep in the grain. So I stained the chair with a golden oak stain and polyurethaned it again.

It was so much 'fun' I may redo the other 2 next!

(Photographing it was a lot of fun too. A good exercise in lighting.)

I'm currently watching an Xfinity movie (from Starz) on my iPad while editing a photo on my PC. Very cool.
