Dynalight Baja B4

Need a portable strobe light? Need a studio light that is quick and easy to operate? Then you should look into the Dynalight Baja B4. Check out this video from the great folks at The Slanted Lens for all the details about the B4.

I discovered that B&H Photo had a used one so I picked it up. I had a collapsible beauty dish that I was using on a Skylux (both are Bowens mounts) so I used that as my modifier on the B4.

I also needed the Dynalight Transmitter, which I also purchased at B&H, to fire the B4 from my Canon cameras:

From the transmitter you can control the settings of the light, so no more raising and lowering the boom to adjust the power! And since the B4 is battery operated no power cords to deal with!!

Here is a sample of the first test image I created with the B4. (Pardon my models but they work cheap.) (The color is slightly off on these images when Blogger shows them. The original images will be on my website soon.)

Conclusion: The light is very easy to work with, the transmitter takes a little getting used to, the color reproduction from this light is excellent and its not terribly expensive. This will be a great studio and location tool.

Update: Used the B4 recently at my first shoot since I purchased it and here are a couple of images where I used the B4 and the aforementioned beauty dish.

I shot 120 portraits this day in under 2 hours and the Baja B4 performed flawlessly! I love this light. I may have to get another one!

My thanks to Jay P Morgan of The Slanted Lens for introducing this light to me and for his review.
